I Feel Pretty – Why everything is better when you start to love yourself

Amy Schumer embodies the type of woman, with whom we all have certainly came in contact in the latest movie I feel pretty . The beauty ideals in our society make many young women feel more successful and happier with every kilo they lose. No wonder many girls think, “When I lose 5 kg, I’m finally happy.”

No surprise, that as soon as the summer approaches the biniki-panic breaks out. The constant competition with ourselves and the comparison with other women makes us so insecure, that we feel uncomfortable in our body.

 

Whyt? Why do young women decide wether they go to the beach at the mercy of  how much they weigh? Why do we often stand in our own way and take away so much quality of life?

 

Instead of looking for mistakes, we might think about what’s going wrong in our environment. How to regain self-confidence without starving and enjoying the summer without body pressure.

Of course, I realize that the path to self-love is a long way and there is no set of rules or prescriptions for self-acceptance. Nevertheless, I would like to try to give some positive impulses in the right direction and I would be very happy to hear your thoughts on this topic.

 

  1. Surround yourself with positive people who make you feel beautiful. But be the one who distributes compliments as well. We do that too infrequently in Germany for inexplicable reasons.
  2. Stop banning and don’t follow any rules. This does not only refer to nutrition but also to a too strict sports program. For my part, I have noticed that I am much happier when I consciously listen to my body. If I’m craving for ice, that might have a reason. If I just cann’t get up to workout, maybe my body needs a break. The frustration of non-compliance makes you so unhappy.
  3. Stop making your physical feeling depend on sizes. Thankfully, I’ve been overboarding this habit for years and am now proudly wearing this dress in size 40.
  4. It makes no sense to compare yourself with others, because everyone is unique! Rather focus on your own merits than compare your supposed mistakes with others.
  5. Do not follow any ideal of beauty and expand your horizon in terms of beauty. There are so many facets of beauty and interesting women with a wonderful aura even without the “seemingly perfect Victoria Secret” look.

 

I am aware that many of the statements are an ideal of a healthy self-esteem. There are always days and phases in which I feel better and moments in which I have doubts. But it’s important that we start deep in ourselves to have a more relaxed relationship with ourselves and our body.

We feel better and the world becomes more beautiful at the same time.

Actually, it’s so easy if we wouldn’t stand in the way of our luck, right?
